Prepare for a change in traffic along the Kamilaroi Highway

Pavement rehabilitation will be carried out on the Kamilaroi Highway at Colly Creek between Willow Tree and Quirindi this week, causing a change in traffic conditions.

Work to improve road conditions and extend pavement life will involve removing and replacing the existing pavement and road markings, as well as roadside signage maintenance where required.

Work started on January 12 and is expected to be completed by late April 2026, weather permitting.

Work will be carried out Monday to Friday and every second weekend from 7am to 6pm.

One lane will be closed with stop/slow and a reduced 40km/h speed limit in place during work hours, with a speed reduction of 60km/h and 80km/h in place outside of work hours for the duration of the project.

The Colly Creek rest area will be closed during work hours, but plans to remain open overnight, although temporary overnight closures may occur if required for safety or operational reasons.

If continuing north on the Kamilaroi Highway, Five Mile Truck Parking Bay Southbound is approximately 17.8 km or 15 mins north.

If continuing south on the Kamilaroi Highway/New England Highway, Nowlands Gap Truck Parking Bay Southbound is approximately 16.6km or 15 mins south.

For vehicles heading northbound along the New England Highway that may have diverted to Colly Creek Rest Area, Goonoo Goonoo Rest Area is approximately 50.5 km or 35 mins away.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Traffic control will temporarily stop wide loads greater than four metres to allow cones or work vehicles to be moved for safe passage. Advance warning signage will be in place for OSOM operators. Contact UHF channel 15 for assistance through the work site.
