Some peak bodies already on T&L industry reference committee
The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) is reviewing industry reference committees (IRCs), with that for transport and logistics (T&L) having nine organisation positions to fill.
The Transport and Logistics IRC (TLI) is responsible for the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package, while the Rail IRC is responsible for rail-specific components.
Presently, five of the 14 positions needed have been allocated, with the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) and the Australian Logistics Council (ALC) taking two for national peak advisory associations, the Transport Workers Union of Australia (TWU) and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) the employee associations and the Department of Defence representing Government.
Once the committee structure is agreed, nominations will open for three more positions for peak bodies or industry associations and six to employers and enterprises.
Within the peak association section, AISC will seek one organisation representing the industry in retail delivery and dangerous goods transportation and delivery, one representing international freight transport from Australia and one for “general representation or specific sectors of the industry”.
The employers/enterprises vacancies are to be, two for small businesses or owner operators, two for large enterprises with distribution centres and T&L operations, one an employer or enterprise from the stevedoring/wharf and one for a medium-sized enterprise with either transport or logistic operations.
“Industry stakeholders are being asked to comment on the proposed structure to ensure it is representative of the industry and sectors. Once the structure has been agreed, the AISC will call for nominations against the vacant positions,” the AISC says.
“Technical Advisory Groups will support the IRC on an as-needs basis. It is also proposed that relevant Industry Growth Centres and State Industry Training Authorities are able to participate as guests, and Registered Training Organisation expertise will be sought during training package development work as required.”
