Port of Melbourne has announced Debbie Goodin has been appointed as the new independent Chair of the Board of Directors and will step into the role effect March 1, 2025.
Goodin has a proven track record of success over her 30 years of senior management experience across public and private sectors and has worked extensively in a variety of sectors, particularly in critical infrastructure including the transport, water and energy sectors.
Her appointment means current Chair John Stanhope will step down from the position on February 28, 2025.

Stanhope was appointed as the board’s inaugural Chair in 2016 at the commencement of the Port’s current 50-year lease with the Victorian government and oversaw development of the first roadmap for the future of the Port.
Goodin will participate in board meetings as an observer from October 2024 ahead of her commencement as Chair the following March.
She says the continued increased productivity of Port of Melbourne will help support the liveability of the Greater Melbourne region.

“I am confident that Port of Melbourne – working together with government and other stakeholders – can enhance Victoria’s competitive position, promote economic prosperity and support the liveability of Greater Melbourne.”
Port of Melbourne is Australia’s largest container and general cargo port and contributes over $11 billion annually to the Australian economy.
The Port also supports over 30,000 full-time equivalent jobs across Australia.
