Port Lincoln set for more freight route upgrades

A fifth round of intersection works at Port Lincoln will improve heavy vehicle movements through the region

Port Lincoln’s Porter Street, Liverpool Street and Railway Place intersection upgrade will improve heavy vehicle movements through the intersection and boost safety for all road users.

The $4.5 million upgrade is funded by the Australian and South Australian (80:20) governments as part of the state’s wider Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, and will follow the completion of four other intersection upgrades in the region,

They form part of the wider $51.25 million Eyre Peninsula road upgrades and will include the installation of traffic signals and pedestrian-actuated (push button) crossings on all approaches. New line marking and signage will also be installed throughout the area.

Heavy vehicle movements and light sequencing were key focuses for the community, and the project scope has been further developed in response to feedback. A final design will be shared in the coming months with construction expected to commence by mid-2025.

Freight accessibility has formed a key cornerstone of economic growth in the Port Lincoln region. Road upgrades in the area have maintained the Lincoln Highway’s status as a key freight route through South Australia while improving accessibility for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
