May 3, 2013

New South Wales Police is reminding truck drivers to make sure their loads are secured after a large metal excavator fell from a rig onto the M7 in Sydney’s west.

A prime mover containing a tanker of dry cement collided with the scoop at Dean Park about 7am on May 2.

NSW Police says the scoop had fallen off a truck belonging to a building company a short time prior to the collision.

The prime mover sustained severe damage as a result of the incident and had to be towed from the scene. The truck that lost the scoop returned to the scene a short time later.
“If a small car had collided with this object, this could have easily been a fatal crash,” Inspector Phil Brooks, who witnessed the collision, says.

“While tragedy was averted on this occasion, it is a stark reminder that all precautions must be taken to ensure loads are secure.”??

Police are currently conducting inquiries into the incident. At this stage no action has been taken against any of the drivers involved.
