Another sub-contractor has been charged with allegedly stealing fuel from national carrier Ruttley Freightlines.
Brett Smith will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on October 7 alongside former Ruttley employees Peter Howarth and Rob Morrison and another sub-contractor, Laurie Jones.
All have been charged with one count of theft.
Victoria Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) alleges the two employees gave the company’s fuel card to Jones and Smith to use even though both sub-contractors did not work for Ruttley’s.
The CIU previously alleged Jones was the only sub-contractor involved.
Detective Senior Constable Greg Teesdale says the CIU is yet to determine how much fuel was stolen.
“I haven’t got a total cost involved yet,” Teesdale says.
Owner Bob Ruttley says his company, which operates 130 prime movers, spends more than $3 million a month on fuel.
The case was originally scheduled to be heard on September 7 but was adjourned.
