Upgrade work along the main route from the Port of Newcastle to Sandy Hollow is expected to slow traffic in the week commencing November 10.
The changes will affect John Renshaw Drive, the New England Highway and the Golden Highway for intersection upgrades associated with the Port to Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) project.
Work is being carried out at the following locations on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and 8am to 1pm Saturdays at:
- The eastbound exit ramp from the Hunter Expressway onto John Renshaw Drive, Buchanan;
- New England Highway and Mitchell Line of Road (Golden Highway), Whittingham.
Shoulder closures will be in place during the works at both locations.
Barriers will be installed at both locations over one night shift during the week of 10 November 2025 from 6pm to 7am, weather permitting.
Lane closures and speed limit reductions will be in place at both locations during the barrier installation, with delays of up to 10 minutes at each.
There are no restrictions for OSOM vehicles travelling through the site. There will be signage on the approach to the site that includes the VHF channel OSOM drivers should use to contact on-site traffic controllers.
OSOM will be managed through the site by traffic controllers.
