Road users have been given a heads up that a gigantic transformer is set to be transported from Glen Waverley in Melbourne to Koonoomoo near Cobram, on the border of NSW and Victoria from Tuesday to Thursday this week.
The transformer will be transported on a large, oversized vehicle approximately 65 metres long and 4.5 metres wide.
Given the size of the transport, it will travel at an average speed of 60 km/h, and be required to slow, at times, to as little as 5 km/h to negotiate some bridges and corners.
It will be guided by a large contingent of escort vehicles and co-pilots travelling in front of and at the rear of the vehicle making sure your roads are safe during and after the move.
Traffic management will assist other road users when the load travels on the wrong side of the road at key locations on the journey.
Transport operators and general road users are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time.
“If you are approaching the transport operation from behind, slow down and be patient as you will be given opportunities to overtake when it is safe,” is the advice from Transport Victoria.
For more information on safety around an oversized vehicle, please visit the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator website and click on oversize loads.
For the latest traffic see the VicTraffic website.
The transformer will be used as part of the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West project and was built by the Wilson Transformer Company in Glen Waverley.
