An all-electric vehicle maintenance hub has opened in regional West Australia in an attempt to reduce the Pilbara’s carbon footprint through the connection of local businesses and visitors.
The mobile service hub is located in Karratha, a town approximately 240km from Port Hedland and 1500km from Perth.
The business is currently supplying renewably charged electric vehicles and has a fleet of 14 EVs including three fixed solar charging stations and Australia’s first mine-spec EV vehicles.
A permanent facility is scheduled for completion in 2025.
The hub was supported with a $250,000 regional economic development (RED) grant in 2023.
Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel says the facility – named Red Dog Renewables – will help break barriers to EV ownership in the region.
“This initiative is not just about reducing emissions,” Michel says. “It’s about creating a sustainable and prosperous future for the Pilbara.
“By providing local servicing and charging solutions, RDR is helping lower the barriers to EV ownership in the Pilbara, promoting a greener and more sustainable community.
“The success of Red Dog Renewables highlights the importance of supporting local businesses that are at the forefront of technological and environmental advancements.”
