Pacific National Coal has opened a new $110 million train support facility in New South Wales.
The facility was launched at Greta in the Hunter Valley this week and will allow refuelling of trains, routine train inspections and wagon maintenance work.
Pacific National Coal Director David Irwin says the opening the Greta Train Support Facility will
allow growth and capacity in the Hunter Valley coal chain.
“Capable of maintaining and provisioning up to 20 train consists per day, the facility will service the existing traffic passing from Newcastle and ensure we continue to deliver efficient, effective and sustainable coal haulage services,” he says.
The support facility is situated at Greta between the existing railway line and the Hunter.
Planning for the Greta facility started in 2008.
The facility includes:
- Five new rail tracks, including three provisioning tracks and two maintenance tracks
- A provisioning shed providing facilities for crew change over, refuelling and re-sanding activities
- Wagon maintenance facilities including a wagon maintenance hard stand area, maintenance workshop, truck and vehicle storage, store room, office space, amenities and lunch room
- Ancillary facilities including a fuel farm containing diesel tanks, water storage, fencing, car parking and access roadways, lighting and landscaping.
