The Truck Industry Council has released the latest T-Mark Data report showcasing the state of truck sales across Australia in 2024 so far, and the number indicate a slight fall on overall year-to-date truck sales when compared to 2023.
In the January 1-October 31 period for 2024 a total of 34,420 trucks have been sold, and although the numbers of heavy duty vehicle sales (up 1.2 per cent) and medium duty vehicle sales (up three per cent) are firming compared to last year, a dramatic drop in the sale of light duty vehicles (down 11.28 per cent) is the culprit for the minor overall year-on-year fall.
The sale numbers of leading light duty vehicle providers Isuzu, Hino and Fuso all tell the tale of the drop in demand for light duty trucks across the nation. By the end of October 2023 the manufacturers had sold 6272, 2487 and 2414 light duty vehicles respectively. In 2024 those numbers have fallen to 5582, 1612 and 1713.
Fourth placed brand Iveco has something to smile about though, having increased its light duty vehicle market share with 1148 sales so far in 2024, an increase from 961 sales this time last year.

Kenworth continues to dominate the Australian heavy duty vehicle market and accounted for 375 of the 1527 total October sales in the space.
It now holds almost a quarter of Australia’s heavy duty vehicle market share, with Volvo (17.8 per cent) and Isuzu (15.1 per cent) making up the podium.
So far this year there have been 3078 Kenworth heavy duty trucks sold across the nation.
Isuzu and Hino have both also continued their strong form in the medium duty vehicle market, however despite an overall increase in sales for medium duty vehicles in 2024, both manufacturers’ numbers have fallen when compared to the same period last year.
Isuzu has sold a total of 3448 medium duty trucks so far in 2024, which is a 201-truck decrease from the same period last year, while Hino has sold 1934, which is a decrease of 161 trucks.
