Container shipping lines Ocean Network Express (ONE), HMM and Yang Ming Marine Transport have announced the formation of a five-year ‘Premier Alliance’ that will commence operations in February 2025.
The agreement has emerged from the existing ‘THE Alliance’, which will end with Hapag-Lloyd’s departure to the ‘Gemini Cooperation’ early next year.
The agreement between Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk to form the Gemini Cooperation was announced earlier this year.
Premier Alliance will comprise of mainline services across the major East-West trade lines of:
- Asia – North America west coast
- Asia – North America east coast
- Asia – Mediterranean
- Asia – North Europe
- Asia – Middle East
“We are very pleased to announce that our strategic parentship with HMM and Yang Ming in the East-West trades will be further continued,” CEO of ONE Jeremy Nixon says.
“The close network collaboration that exists between the three companies will be further strengthened and enhanced under this new collaboration starting from February 2025.
“Collectively this new tripartite alliance will offer strong, reliable and highly dependable end-to-end direct port container services to its customers on both the Transpacific and Asia-Europe trades.”
Premier Alliance has also entered into a slot exchange cooperation with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in Asia-Europe trade in a move that will help the tripartite maintain a strong Asia-Europe network following Hapag-Lloyd’s entry into Gemini Cooperation.
“We believe close cooperation under Premier Alliance will provide a stable and competitive service network to our customers in East-West trade,” CEO of HMM Kyung Bae Kim says.
“Throughout the new cooperation with MSC in Asia-Europe trade, HMM’s global network leaps one step further and we can provide our customers with seamless service coverage around the globe.”
The members of Premier Alliance said an update for all services for the major trade lanes will be announced separately, including a service package under the new alliance.
