Ombudsman’s education campaign hits Sydney

Workplace watchdog will visit businesses in north and north-west Sydney in the coming weeks to provide industrial relations information

August 6, 2012

The Fair Work Ombudsman will visit a number of businesses in north and north-west Sydney in the coming weeks to make sure employers are up to speed with their knowledge of industrial relations law.

Inspectors will target businesses at Macquarie Park, North Ryde, Pennant Hills and Thornleigh to provide information packs to those previously covered by the New South Wales industrial relations system but are now under the national scheme.

Acting Fair Work Ombudsman Mark Scully says the informal visits will help employers understand national workplace laws, including the national employment standards and modern awards.

“Information packs being distributed include helpful resources such as fact sheets, templates and best practice guides providing advice on practical steps employers can take to adjust to the federal system,” Scully says.

“We are very serious about our job of building knowledge and creating fairer workplaces and we are strongly focused on ensuring the community understands its workplace rights and obligations.”
