OKA unveils latest off-road trucks

OKA releases latest NT models, available in three configurations

As Australia’s only local truck and bus chassis manufacturer, OKA has created some memorable 4×4 models over the years, which have done sterling duty in some of the toughest terrain in the country.

Continuing this tradition are the latest NT models, available as trucks in day, crew or multi cab configuration with a minimum 1770mm tray length.

All NT models use the proven Cummins ISBe 4+ engines, with SCR technology to reduce exhaust NOx, CO and particulate emissions.

Fitting the 4.5-litre engine required a redesign of the chassis to ensure it met the new regulations, resulting in an 18 month halt to production.

Chassis modifications were also required for the AdBlue tank and the Cummins exhaust system with its integral catalyst.

With power and torque figures of 136kW and 700Nm respectively, the Cummins engine provides plenty of flexibility, making it a good choice for off-road operators who require ease of driveability in difficult terrains.

Matching the upgraded torque curve are OKA-designed axles and diffs, which are now the most compact for their torque rating.

Redesigned diff locks offer better engagement and disengagement, even in harsh country.

Operators can choose either an Allison 1000 Series six-speed automatic or a Tremec five-speed manual, while the four-wheel-drive selector is now a single lever to move between 4×2 high range through to 4×4 low range.

Repackaging the chassis has not compromised OKA’s ground clearance. The 40 degree angle of attack is achieved, with the radiator and intercooler tucked well out of harm’s way above the chassis rail.

OKA uses its own cab, designed to meet Australian ROPS (roll-over protection standards).

The EURO 4 incarnation is fitted with a mildly revamped front incorporating four circular headlamps for better light throw.

The day cab seats a crew of two on adjustable Stratos seats and can be supplied with a factory-fitted 3685mm tray able to take three standard pallets.

The crew and multi cabs seat six and nine respectively, with reduced tray lengths of 2395mm (crew) and 1770mm (multi) respectively.
