Nyora freight and community access to improve with study

A new transport study for Nyora will identify road, intersection and freight upgrades to improve safety and traffic flow for the growing South Gippsland town.

The Allan Government has announced the launch of the Nyora Transport Infrastructure and Connectivity Study, paving the way for safer and smoother travel through the South Gippsland town.

The study will help identify future road and transport upgrades to enhance safety, improve traffic flow, and facilitate freight access.

Led by South Gippsland Shire Council and supported through a grant from the Victorian Government’s Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program, the project will explore opportunities for road widening, intersection improvements and better pedestrian links.

It will also assess how to strengthen freight connections to the South Gippsland Highway to support efficient goods movement.

Planning for safer, more efficient connections

Minister for Roads and Road Safety, and Minister for Ports and Freight, Melissa Horne, says the Nyora transport study will help guide future investment.

“This study will become the blueprint for how transport and traffic infrastructure can support Nyora’s fast-growing community,” says Horne.

“This is a great partnership between the Allan Government and South Gippsland Shire Council, and we’re looking forward to identifying the best transport solutions for the future.”

The project aims to enhance safety and promote active transport options while ensuring freight operators can move goods more efficiently through the region.

Supporting growth and future planning

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh says the study aims to plan for the town’s growth.

“This study is about planning to make it easier and safer for Nyora locals to get where they need to go, while supporting the town’s growth into the future,” he says.

The Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program provides funding to local governments and community organisations for small-scale transport projects, feasibility studies and innovative transport service trials.

The outcomes of the Nyora transport study will help shape the development of local road and freight infrastructure alongside the community’s expansion.
