Expressions of interest are now open for those wanting to join the new council
New South Wales has launched the new NSW Freight Transport Advisory Council (FTAC) to oversee the state’s freight industry and supply chain.
The new council will replace the existing Freight and Logistics Advisory Council (FLAC) and Road Freight Industry Council (RFIC) to represent the entire freight chain across different transport modes as a single council.
The council will meet over supply chain and freight matters while also discussing new strategies and issues with the NSW Government.
NSW regional transport and roads minister Sam Farraway launched the council on Monday to provide a more efficient process when evaluating freight needs.
“Freight is a priority for the NSW Government and this council will be a place where members can exchange views and engage in frank and robust discussions directly with the Government,” Farraway says.
“The new body will not only discuss freight and supply chain issues, but provide input into other Government strategies, policies and projects.
“Industry insight will be critical to the success of our policy framework so we are looking for engaged leaders across the transport industry to be part of the new council and invite them to lodge their interest.”

Set to be comprised of 15 members selected through an open expression of interest process, the council will meet four times a year and will bring industry experts together to look at freight in NSW in its entirety.
“Our freight networks underpin the success of our entire economy – the challenges and opportunities in this space need to be considered holistically,” Farraway says.
“I thank those who were involved with FLAC and RFIC, their contributions have been considerable and I would encourage those council members to consider applying to be part of the new FTAC.”
