NSW flood and road work updates

Both flooding events and planned works will close plenty of NSW roads this weekend

The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad) and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) have offered updates on road closures along major freight routes caused by both recent flood events and upcoming road works scheduled for this weekend.

NatRoad says the Princes Highway near the Bulli Pass is currently closed in both directions at Bulli due to flooding.

It recommends all motorists and heavy vehicle operators avoid the area, with other Illawarra roads affected by the flooding including:

  • Cataract, Picton Road, which is closed westbound between Mount Keira Road and Wilton
  • Albion Park, Illawarra Highway (Terry Street), which is closed in both directions at Taylor Road
  • Coalcliff to Clifton as there’s stop/ slow traffic control on Lawrence Hargrave Drive on Seacliff Bridge due to a fallen tree

Buses are also replacing trains between Thirroul and Waterfall between Bomaderry and Kiama along the South Coast Line, while a limited number of buses are replacing trains between Moss Vale and Campbelltown on the Southern Highlands Line.

In a separate announcement, Newbridge Road is also closed in both directions due to flooding between Governor Macquarie Drive at Chipping Norton, and Henry Lawson Drive at Milperra.

Heavy vehicle operators who need to travel can consider using the M5 or Hume Highway instead but are advised to take extreme care due to the severe weather conditions.

In good news, Picton Road has reopened in both directions between Cataract and Wilton after the road was previously closed to westbound traffic between Mount Keira Road and Wilton due to flooding.

But Lawrence Hargrave Drive is now closed in both directions between Clifton School Parade and Paterson Road from Coalcliff to Clifton due to flooding and debris on the road.

At Albion Park, Illawarra Highway (Terry Street) remains closed in both directions at Taylor Road.

TfNSW also says there will be road closures and changed traffic conditions on Elizabeth Drive from 8PM on Friday April 8 to 5AM on Monday April 11 as part of early works for the new M12 Motorway.

The 56-hour closure of Tuddenham’s Elizabeth Drive will occur between Badgerys Creek Road and Adams Road while crews construct a new temporary roundabout.

Motorists and heavy vehicles will be detoured via the Northern Road, M4 Motorway and Mamre Road to the north and Northern Road and Badgerys Creek Road to the south.

Both TfNSW and NatRoad remind heavy vehicle operators not to drive through floodwater and to allow for extra travel time to get around flood-affected regions.
