Australian-owned global logistics business Northline is celebrating the opening of a brand new facility in Queensland following the completion of its Ipswich-located purpose-built $38 million depot.

The 45,700 sqm site facilitates B-Double and road train movements and features 18,000 sqm undercover and 8,645 sqm designated for warehousing.

Located in Brisbane’s south-west corridor, the opening of the new depot marks 35 years of the company’s presence in Brisbane, and is the first time a Northline facility features Satellite Pallet Racking systems to improve operational efficiency and maximise floor space and storage capacity.

Northline CEO Craige Whitton says the key location of the site and the implementation of the Satellite Pallet Racking system will help foster positive outcomes for customers.

“The new depot will allow us to service our customers more efficiently, while also being able to offer much greater warehousing capacity,” Whitton says.

“The installation of the Satellite Pallet Racking system is a game-changer with the depot semi-automated to improve productivity and offer more flexibility in our warehousing and storage configuration.”

The opening of the depot comes in tandem with expected surging freight requirements in the region ahead of the city’s predicted growth and its hosting of the 2032 Olympics.

The Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) expects exports from the city to increase by 41 per cent over the next 10 years, with the transport and logistics sector set to see the second-highest growth in the city of any industry.

“Brisbane is a key market for Northline both domestically and internationally, with growing volumes of freight being imported and exported through Port of Brisbane,” Whitton continues.

“Domestic and international freight to Brisbane will significantly increase over the next eight years as the city prepares to host the 2032 Olympics.”

The addition of the new Brisbane depot has taken the capability of Northline’s fully integrated depot network to 18 strategically located sites across six states and territories.

The new depot is located at 20 Wood Street, Bundamba.
