RACV executive Duncan Elliott to head Melbourne's 'missing link' project, VTA welcomes the news
Victoria roads minister Luke Donnellan has announced the appointment of Duncan Elliott as the new chief executive of the North East Link Authority (NELA).
Elliott is a Victorian road expert having worked with VicRoads at senior executive levels for many years.
He is currently RACV’s general manager of membership and rewards.
“Duncan is a road expert – he has a passion for working with the community, and will bring local knowledge as a resident of Melbourne’s North Eastern suburbs,” Donnellan says.
Elliott will lead a team of engineers and design specialists working on the project.
A long-time supporter of the ‘missing link’ project, the Victorian Transport Association (VTA) has welcomed the news.
“With his background and experience in engineering and infrastructure, Mr Elliott is well positioned to spearhead the planning, procurement and construction phases of this vital infrastructure project,” VTA CEO Peter Anderson says.
“The VTA looks forward to working with Mr Elliott and his team to ensure the NEL delivers productivity improvements for freight operators, and, in turn, the broader economy, in a sustainable and suitable manner.”
The North East Link will connect the Metropolitan Ring Road at Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway and EastLink.
Donnellan says this is the “only project that can actually slash congestion in Melbourne’s north, south, and east, while the Western Distributor fixes traffic in the west”.
The project is currently in planning stage, with procurement to begin next year and construction in 2019.
