A key contract for Melbourne’s $15.8 billion North East Link project has been awarded to Blue Water Shipping, with the logistics company set to provide a comprehensive range of warehouse management services and systems and transportation from warehouses to the project site.

The awarding of the contract to Blue Water has come after over a year of planning and collaboration, with the project set to connect key growth areas around Melbourne and cut traffic congestion.

North East Link is part of the wider Victoria’s Big Build and will involve the construction of 6.5 kilometres of tunnels to link Melbourne’s existing freeway network.

The tunnels are projected to take 15,000 heavy vehicles off local roads and reduce travel times by up to 35 minutes.

At this stage it is set to open to the public in 2028.

“Securing the logistics contract for the North East Link project is a testament to our commitment to provide bespoke solutions to meet the unique requirements of major infrastructure projects,” Blue Water Vic/Tas State Manager Rebecca Peat says.

“We look forward to contributing to such a transformational project.”

Blue Water Shipping has joined a myriad of organisations contracted to work on the project, which is being run by Spark Consortium.

WeBuild, GS Engineering and Construction and CFB contractors are all heavily involved in the project.
