NHVR to host council engineers seminar

A seminar will be held in Brisbane next month to help council engineers understand challenges facing heavy vehicle managers

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) will hold a seminar for council engineers, in a bid to help them better understand the challenges faced by heavy vehicle managers.

In what the regulator says will be an Australian first, the heavy vehicle access seminar, in late October, will be open for council engineers to register for in coming weeks.

NHVR stakeholder engagement specialist Tim Hansen says the regulator is running the event after many in the industry said they wanted council engineers to know more about the managers’ daily work.

“The two-day event will be a combination of imparting information and a field trip to local crane and oversize overmass operators so the engineers can see firsthand the challenges of moving these types of vehicles which often have short lead times and need access approval quickly,” Hansen says.

“The Heavy Vehicle National Law is complex and anything we can do to help council engineers understand how to use the full options under the law to manage their local freight tasks is a good thing.”

Council engineers are invited to sign up for the event, to be held in Brisbane, from Wednesday through the NHVR’s events page, available here.
