NHVR issues improvement notices over mass and load breaches

The NHVR recently issued two notices to a Victorian company over safety matters

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) says it recently issued a Victorian company with two improvement notices to correct mass and load breaches.

In its weekly newsletter, the NHVR says it handed out the two notices to the company to ensure they avoid the safety risk.

The NHVR’s roadside intercept of one of the company’s heavy vehicle didn’t comply with the applicable mass and loading requirement, prompting further investigation from the national regulator.

NHVR director of investigations Steve Underwood says the infringing company failed to produce evidence of mass and load restraint policies, procedures and safety controls.

“The company posed a safety risk by not equipping its staff with the tools to identify and manage heavy vehicle mass, dimension and loading requirements,” Underwood says.

“The NHVR will monitor the company and review evidence of the corrective measures required in the improvement notice to prevent further offences.”

The NHVR says a total of three actions must be taken per each improvement notice on mass and load restraint measures, including a risk management process, policies and procedures and staff training.
