New Zealand forestry truck engineer awarded fellowship

Lincoln Taylor recognised for making logging trucks safer in New Zealand.

A leading heavy vehicle designer in New Zealand has been awarded for his efforts to improve the safety and strength of logging trucks in the country.

Lincoln Taylor received a Fellowship of the Institution of Professional Engineers NZ (IPENZ) in recognition of his leading role in the area of logging trucks that includes improving codes and standards for heavy vehicle certification.

Taylor is a founding member of the Log Transport Safety Council and previously received a New Zealand Engineering Excellence Award for designing an innovative frame attachment for holding lons on trucks, known as log bolsters, which have a great safety record.

Taylor is credited with having designed, inspected, and certified the manufacture of about 33 per cent of the logging trailers in the New Zealand fleet.

Taylor received the fellowship  at an awards dinner held in Wellington on March 13.

IPENZ CEO Susan Freeman-Greene says the dinner is a special occasion to honour and celebrate the individuals who have made a significant contribution to the engineering profession.

“It is an opportunity to highlight the great work our engineers do and the positive benefits brought to New Zealand,” Freeman-Greene says.
