New Western Sydney Airport board appointments as opening day looms

The Western Sydney Airport Corporation has made two new board appointments as the opening of the transformative project ticks closer

The opening of Western Sydney Airport is looming as a game-changer for the transport and logistics sector in Sydney and New South Wales. With the airport set to open next year, crucial leadership appointments have been made for the crucial lead-in period.

Mike Mrdak has been appointed as the Western Sydney Airport Corporation Deputy Chair, while Amanda McMillan has been named as a Non-Executive Director, with each of their terms to last three years.

Their appointments followed a publicly advertised, merit-based recruitment process.

Mrdak brings extensive experience of the wider aviation sector through his current roles as Chair of the Airport Development Group and Non-Executive Director of NBN Co.

He was also previously Secretary of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development and Chair of NEC Australia.

McMillan is currently a Non-Executive Director of Perth Airport and Queensland Airports and was formerly CEO of AGS Airports.

She is also a former Managing Director of Glasgow Airport.

“The appointment of Mr Mrdak and Mc McMillan will provide the Western Sydney Airport Corporation Board with important skills and ensure continuity of leadership while the airport transitions from construction to operations,” Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King says.

Mrdak and McMillan have replaced outgoing Non-Executive Directors Christine Spring and Vincent Graham.

“This is a crucial time for the airport,” Finance Minister Katy Gallagher says. “Having the right leadership team in place now will ensure its sustained success long into the future.

“I welcome the appointments of Mr Mrdak and Ms McMillan and I’m sure they’ll be a great asset to the airport as it pivots to operational status.”
