New venue confirmed for tech conference

ATA and ARTSA confirm this year’s Technical and Maintenance Conference will be held in Sydney

The 2011 Australian Trucking Association (ATA) and Australian Road Transport Suppliers Association (ARTSA) Technical and Maintenance Conference will be held in Sydney, it has been confirmed.

After the last two conferences were held at the Silverwater Resort near Philip Island in Victoria, the conference is moving to Sydney as organisers look to broaden the attendance by holding it closer to major transport operations.

The 2011 conference will be held at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh, close to Sydney Airport and the Redfern railway station.

The new venue also sees the program compacted into just two full days across the Tuesday and Wednesday, although there are still some social activities, including a heritage tour of the former NSW railway workshops.

As well as a new venue, sponsor PACCAR has expanded its support to include the naming rights, along with other major backers Castrol, Cummins and Hino.

The Roads and Traffic Authority is also offering attendees the chance to tour its live traffic control centre, although there is a $20 fee for the visit.

As with previous Technical and Maintenance conferences, the goal is for attendees to have the chance to hear from experts in the service and technical fields, with a full programme of speakers and workshops.

Among the seminars planned for the two days are presentations on the use and benefits of Central Tyre Inflation (CTI) systems, as well as downloading and interpreting engine management system data from a fleet of trucks.

There will also be a session on making your fleet safer covering 20 available safety technologies and how they impact on vehicle operations, such as adaptive cruise control, side under-run protection and lane departure warning systems.

Also part of the TMC agenda is the annual TruckSafe forum, where operators can share information, find out about the latest improvements in risk management and speak with auditors about what they will be focusing on during reviews.

Another staple of the conference is the Craig Roseneder Award for Technical and Maintenance Excellence, supported by lubrication specialist Castrol, with the winner to be announced during the Castrol-backed awards dinner.
