VicRoads says truck drivers will soon have access to two new rest areas equipped with parking bays and toilets

Truck drivers using the Geelong Ring Road in Victoria will soon have two rest areas, VicRoads says.
The stops will feature separate truck and parking bays, toilets and other facilities, VicRoads Project Director Tony Hedley says.
The final section of the ring road is scheduled to open to traffic this Sunday, which will cater for 9,000 vehicles each day of which 15 percent are trucks.
“The rest areas are strategically located to provide opportunities for heavy vehicle drivers to pull off the freeway when necessary or fatigued and to comply with driving hours and rest regulation,” Hedley says.
The ring road opened in 2009, and VicRoads says the route has slashed travel times and truck numbers by up to 75 percent on key roads.
The new 5km road is funded by the Victorian and federal governments, and links the Anglesea Road Interchange to the Princes Highway.
Drivers will be able to get from Melbourne to the Surf Coast without encountering a single traffic light.
