A new rest area has opened on the Pacific Highway as part of a multi-million dollar road upgrade
The NSW Government has opened a new rest on the Pacific Highway as part of a multi-million dollar road upgrade.
The new rest at Browns Flat can accommodate heavy vehicles, which NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Roads Sonia Hornery says will help truck drivers reduce fatigue.
“I am delighted to open this much needed rest area at Browns Flat for motorists travelling down the coast,” Hornery says.
“Fatigue is one of the biggest killers on our roads, which is why the opening of this rest area today is so important for the safety everyone using this highway.”
Traffic has also been switched to the new southbound carriageway over a 13 kilometre section between Karuah and Bulahdelah.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says work will now begin on constructing the new northbound carriageway, which is part of the $262 million uprgrade from Karuah to Bulahdelah.
“This traffic switch means that work can now start on the upgrade of the existing highway, which will form the new northbound carriageway,” Albanese says.
The 23 kilometre project starts about two kilometres north of Myall Way and ends about one kilometre south of Booral Road, which is three kilometres south of Bulahdelah.
Another rest area is due to be built as part of the upgrade, as well as seven new twin bridges and truck lay-by’s.
