A Victorian manufacturer and supplier of plastics has developed pipe technology to replace imports with local product.

An Australian leader in the manufacture, distribution and trading of polymers, Qenos is an important link in Victoria’s manufacturing chain.

The company is currently undertaking a $195 million plant upgrade to expand and modernise its Altona manufacturing facilities.

Officialy opened today,
the new, state-of-the-art production facilities will produce Qenos’
world-leading resin technology to be used
in the
local manufacture of pipes.

Victorian Minister for Manufacturing, Exports and Trade Richard Dalla-Riva says the innovative technology will enable Qenos to meet growing market needs and double the current pipe resin manufacturing capability.

The technology – Centrene™ PE100 – allows heavy duty pipes, to be made from this new resin; producing more durabity and flexiblity than traditional concrete pipes.

The new facilities will position Qenos with the ability to supply growing demand from the water and mining industries.

“This will keep Australia at the cutting edge of technology development for downstream suppliers and meet the challenges from overseas suppliers in the production of advanced technology plastics,” Minister Dalla-Riva says.

“The project will enable Qenos and local plastics manufacturers to stay at the forefront of international manufacturing standards in this field by developing strong skills and technology transfer into the local marketplace.”

The manufacturing operations in Altona employ approximately 500 people and focus on supplying Australia’s growing polymer market.
