Safe Work Australia releases new guides to help stevedores improve workplace safety
November 12, 2009
Safe Work Australia has released three new guides designed to help with safety in the stevedoring industry across Australia.
The booklets have been developed by Safe Work Australia in consultation with all sate and territory regulators, unions as well as the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the stevedoring industry.
The move has been welcomed by New South Wales Ports Minister Joe Tripodi who says the guidelines will benefit the industry.
“Stevedores at NSW ports will now have access to essential occupational health and safety information that can help employers and employees gain a better knowledge and understanding of workplace safety,” Tripodi says.
“The majority of serious injuries and fatalities in stevedoring occur because the work environment is constantly changing and is often unpredictable.
