New bypass to improve heavy vehicle efficiency

Multi-million dollar project to increase heavy vehicle productivity in a northern Queensland to open this month

A multi-million project to increase heavy vehicle productivity in a northern Queensland region will open this month.

The $119 million Townsville Ring Road will allow trucks to bypass Townsville’s metropolitan area from April 20.

The project, which spans 7 kilometres and two bridges, is intended to slash congestion levels and improve local communities.

Minister for Main Roads Craig Wallace says the project takes into account future urban growth, meaning it will meet long-term local and highway needs.

“By providing the infrastructure needed to enable heavy vehicles to bypass the Townsville metropolitan area, local congestion and connectivity will improve, along with noise and air quality for the local community,” Wallace says.
