Allison Transmissions has announced its automatic transmissions will be the exclusive offering in Freightliner’s new American range of natural gas powered vehicles.
The Allison 4000 series transmission will be offered in the heavy duty Cascadia 113 Natural Gas model installed behind a Cummins Westport ISX 12G engine. The 3000 series transmission is also the exclusive offering in the lighter duty 112 and 114 models.
“Allison transmissions are the ideal option for alternative fuel vehicles because of their torque converter technology that results in improved startability at the launch of the vehicle, full power shifts and better performance,” Freightliner Sales Manager Robert Carrick says.
Allison Transmissions has a significant presence in America’s burgeoning natural gas powered truck market.
A joint venture formed in 2001, Cummins has produced a range of natural gas engines for compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid natural gas (LNG) applications.
