Quintiq supply chain solution slashes cycle times, provides full visibility for Singapore steel maker NatSteel Holdings

Quintiq’s Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) solution
is slashing cycle times and providing full data visibility for steel maker NatSteel Holdings.
The organisation started implementing the software in stages
from March 2011 at its flagship Singapore-based steel mill.
The plant is the only one in Singapore with integrated upstream and downstream operations, where steel is manufactured through recycling scrap and
fabricated according to customers’ needs.
In addition, NatSteel has one of the largest single cut-and-bend operations in the world.
NatSteel will utilise the software to address the complexities of its supply chain and optimise several of its operational functions.
With over 3,000 employees and an annual output of some 2 million tonnes of premium steel products for the construction industry in the region, flexibility is the key feature required.
NatSteel Holdings Chief Supply Chain Officer Tan Man Ee expects the solution to achieve this by dynamically linking and integrating complex information and processes across the enterprise.
Tan
says the company wanted to transform its whole supply chain.
“We reviewed several APS providers, and Quintiq’s solutions and strong expertise in the steel industry made it an obvious choice for us,” Tan says.
“Quintiq demonstrated its ability to be flexible enough to address the complex requirements of NatSteel’s highly dynamic operations.”
Since 2011, the Quintiq Macro Planner and Company Planner solutions have gone live, the Upstream and Downstream Scheduler implementations are currently in progress and the Logistics Planner will soon commence.
Tan adds NatSteel will consider rolling out the solutions to its other sites outside Singapore based upon the success of the local
implementation.
