The latest NatRoad board appointment welcomes a passionate advocate for women in trucking
The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad) has chosen to welcome a passionate advocate for women in trucking in Melissa Barry after she was elected to the association’s board.
NatRoad announced her appointment at its National Conference last week on the Queensland Gold Coast.
Born and raised in the Albury-Wodonga region, Barry is a director of Border Crane Consultants, a business in Baranduda, Victoria, which she established with her husband Jason in 2011.
Barry worked in various roles in local government, manufacturing and defence before obtaining her truck driving licence and joining the family business full-time. She holds a Bachelor of Business Management (Marketing) from La Trobe University.
“Melissa brings a wealth of industry knowledge and a passion for transport and logistics,” NatRoad chair Paul Fellows says.
“Her appointment reflects NatRoad’s commitment to diverse, innovative, and experienced leadership. Her experience across multiple sectors will undoubtedly be an asset to our board and our membership.”
Speaking about her new role, Barry says: “Joining the NatRoad Board is both an honour and a privilege.”
“Road transport is the backbone of our nation, and I’m enthusiastic about contributing to its growth and prosperity.
“I’ve witnessed the challenges and opportunities in transport and logistics firsthand, and I am confident that together we can drive real change for the benefit of our members and the sector at large.”
A NatRoad member since 2020, Barry’s credentials don’t stop at her practical experience. She is also a patron member of Transport Women Australia.
In 2021, she received a Driving Change Diversity Program scholarship, recognising her commitment as a champion of diversity in the transport industry.
In addition to her heavy vehicle accreditation, Barry is also licenced to operate forklifts, motorcycles and boats. She is a mother to 10-year-old son Kade and humbly describes herself as a “mediocre” squash player.
