NatRoad says regulators need to get the ball rolling on emissions incentives

NatRoad is calling for governments to reform ADRs to help promote zero-emissions trucks

The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad) says it fully supports the move to Euro VI and has called on the federal government to incentivise its adoption.

NatRoad says the more immediate need, however, is for reforms to Australian Design Rules (ADRs) to accelerate the take up of zero-emissions trucks.

The association says the top of the list is aligning width rules with international markets and implementing a one-tonne mass concession for Euro VI and electric and zero-emissions vehicles.

NatRoad says Australia’s 2.5-metre truck width rule is out of step with other countries and changing it will deliver benefits for load restraint and work health and safety.

The association says refrigerated vehicles will be more efficient, trucks will have better roll stability and the industry will have access to the latest international technology.

NatRoad says government needs to send a clear message to industry that the reduced payload from new lower emissions vehicles can be partly compensated for with technical changes.
