NatRoad is working with the well-known university on a new national road safety program to keep roads safer for truckies
The National Road Transport Association (NatRoad) has announced a collaboration with the Monash University-based National Road Safety Partnership Program (NRSPP) to make roads safer.
NRSPP is hosting an online resource of road safety tools, evidence and fact sheets to improve safety in road transport and logistics workplaces.
NatRoad CEO Warren Clark says the association wants to work with organisations that support Australian businesses to develop a positive road safety culture and NRSPP fit the bill.
“We have jointly developed a series of Heavy Vehicle Toolbox Talks to help operators deliver engaging safety messages on topics relevant to heavy vehicle drivers’ daily tasks,” Clark says.
“We all have an opportunity to be a leader when it comes to safety. From senior management to workers, a positive road safety culture is everyone’s responsibility.

“This invaluable resource, hosted and delivered by Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), gives operators the knowledge to embed safety in their businesses.
“It is open to everyone, not just NatRoad members, and can be accessed here.“
Director of the NRSPP Jerome Carslake says the program is excited to welcome NatRoad as a partner.
“This allows the program to be a conduit through to NatRoad’s members who represent the vast majority of professional operators out on the road,” he says.
“The NRSPP is able to draw on evidence-based research from MUARC and translate it to drive real world road safety impact. The process often involves larger companies whose support and insights contribute to the whole industry benefiting because the content is guided by those from the heavy vehicle sector.
“Working with peak associations like NatRoad broadens the program’s reach. NatRoad can help inform the NRSPP’s work by drawing on insights from their members on what road safety issues they face on the road.”
The NRSPP provides free networking, support and education to assist organisations in making road safety part of their organisational culture.
The NRSPP can help businesses of all sizes, across all sectors, to build road safety initiatives specific to their workplace and beyond. Importantly, it brings together and promotes conversations between businesses, government and researchers to help Australian organisations develop a strong safety culture – something that is critical to running a successful business.
