NatRoad Award winners announced

James Ellison, Jade Harney and Tim Giles have been recognised by NatRoad for the contributions to the road transport industry

NatRoad has announced the winners of its prestigious annual awards, with the three recipients demonstrating the highest levels of dedication, professionalism and commitment of individuals who are setting the standards of excellence in road transport.

Ditton Bulk Haulage’s James Ellison was named the Professional Driver of the Year due to his flawless road safety record in the face of extensive distances travelled.

Ellison has been driving over 200,000 annually without recording a single incident to date, and always showcases a professionalism and willingness to mentor his colleagues in the industry.

“James Ellison exemplifies the best of the industry, with his flawless driving record and over 200,000 kilometres driven annually,” NatRoad says.

“James is not just a skilled driver but also a positive force within Ditton Bulk Haulage, where his professionalism and teamwork are highly valued.

“His contributions have made a significant impact on both his workplace and the broader industry, setting a high standard for others to follow.”

Followmont Transport’s Jade Harney was named the Sam Sali Young Driver of the Year for her motivation and commitment to her craft. The 24-year-old has already earned multiple licences and certifications and is already becoming a standout member of the industry.

The Young Driver of the Year award was renamed to dedication the late industry titan Sam Sali.

“At just 24, Jade Harney has already achieved remarkable milestones in the trucking industry,” NatRoad says.

“Joining Followmont Transport in 2019 as a forklift operator, Jade quickly earned her truck licence, multiple certifications and the respect of her colleagues.

“As the driver of Followmont’s ‘Pinky’ Women in Transport truck, Jade not only represents her company but also inspires more women to join the industry.

“Her positive impact extends beyond her role.”

Tim Giles’ 50 years of dedication and commitment to the trucking industry were recognised with the Ted Pickering Memorial Award.

Giles started his career as a truck driver in Europe and has since become a well-respected and highly regarded automotive journalist and photographer.

“Tim Giles, a journalist and editor synonymous with the trucking industry, has been honoured with the Ted Pickering Memorial Award for his contributions to the advancement of the industry over his 50-year career,” NatRoad says.

“His work, deeply informed by his own driving experience, has consistently focused on the opportunities and positive aspects of the industry, while providing valuable insights into new technology and best practice.

“Tim’s influence is far-reaching. As he retires, his legacy continues through freelance work, ensuring his voice remains a guiding force in the industry.”

NatRoad CEO Warren Clark issued his congratulations to all three award winners.

“These awards reflect the hard work and passion of individuals who have excelled in their roles and gone above and beyond to have a significant positive impact on the broader industry,” Clark says.
