National Rail Safety Regulator to step down

Replacement is sought with Andrews to return home to UK at end of year

Personal reasons have cut short the tenure of Rob Andrews as CEO of the National Rail Safety Regulator.

The outcome surfaces 18 months after Andrews became the first person in the role.

The Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR) reveals Andrews will depart at the end of the year.

“It has been a great honour to be the inaugural National Rail Safety Regulator and to firmly establish the ONRSR team, vision and to start the process of garnering a consistent and appropriate approach to rail regulation across Australia,” Andrews says

The ONRSR sees the long notice period as providing the opportunity to recruit a suitable replacement with handover period. An Australian and international search will be started “shortly”.

The non-executive members of the ONRSR, Cathie Scott and Peter Batchelor, as part of the selection panel, will oversee the recruitment process and make recommendations to the Ministerial Council for Transport and Infrastructure on the replacement for Andrews.
