“National powerhouse” logistics project a decade in the making

The Goulburn Valley Link Freight Precinct project is finally set to get off the ground after a decade of campaigning

A new freight precinct is set to be built in the heart of Victoria, with a $22.9 million project green-lit by the Greater Shepparton City Council and federal government.

Council has committed to funding $14.4 million towards the project, which has been named the Goulburn Valley Link Freight Precinct and is set to be located outside Mooroopna west of Shepparton.

Critical enabling works including road connections into the new precinct and the construction of a new roundabout and upgrades to Simson Road will enable large, high productivity freight vehicles to access the facility.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King says the project is a key development for one of the “powerhouse” agricultural regions of the country.

“The Goulburn Valley is a powerhouse of agriculture and innovation,” King says. “This freight and logistics precinct will capitalise on its location and its connection to national and interstate transport links.

“I’d like to thank Greater Shepparton for their advocacy on this critical project. Our government is proud to partner with them to improve the productivity and resilience of freight for the broader region.”

Works are expected to begin in early 2025.

Mayor of Greater Shepparton Cr Shane Sali says the final $8.5 million invested in the project by the federal government has helped realise a long-needed project for the region.

“The GV Link Project has been over a decade in the making and is the result of persistence in making this ambitious project a reality,” Sali says.

“The Australian government’s investment will be a catalyst for council to kickstart the project, showing recognition that the Goulburn Valley is a national powerhouse for agriculture and industry, especially food manufacturing.

“The GV Link site and future logistics hub is set to boost Greater Shepparton’s growth as a regional centre over the next 20 years.”
