Multiple Daimler recalls issued

Minor manufacturing issues including the lack of a spanner are affecting multiple Daimler truck models.

Owners of several Daimler truck models are being told to get in contact with their local dealers for information on minor recalls issued that have been identified.

Fuso Shogun and Fighter trucks from years 2019 – 2022 and Freightliner Cascadia trucks from years 2020 to 2021 have been affected.

A recall for the Fuso trucks was issued on July 5 by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts after the Japanese truck maker was made aware that the tool to mechanically open the spring-loaded parking brake chamber was not supplied with the vehicle. With recall number REC-005709 and over 100 units being affected.

FK6, FM6, FN6, FS7, and FV7 variants of the trucks have been affected.

Owners of the trucks should not be too worried, however, as the statement reads: “The missing tool is not a safety issue and will not affect the performance of vehicles.”

The department has advised owners that they will be contacted in writing by Daimler Truck advising them to contact their nearest authorised Daimler Truck Dealership who will supply the missing spanner, free of charge.

A recall for the Freightliner Cascadia was issued on July 4 after it was found that due to a manufacturing defect, the spline teeth of the windshield wiper arms may deteriorate and could result in loss of wiper function. The recall number is REC-005718.

The department warns that non-functioning wipers could lead to impaired visibility for the driver and in certain conditions, may pose a hazard to the driver and other road users, over 600 units have been affected.

The recall is again not a serious one likely to affect the vehicles performance in any way, however, owners are still advised to contact an authorised Daimler Commercial Vehicle dealership and make arrangements to have the windshield wiper arms inspected and if required replaced, free of charge.
