Mulder ‘grieves’ for transport as RACV begins Redspot survey

Victorian Transport Minister Terry Mulder is blaming traffic congestion on the “mess” left behind by the former government.

Speaking in Parliament yesterday, Mulder says he “grieves” for the transport industry that is caught up in congestion.

“Do members opposite think that we as a government wanted to inherit an absolute financial mess such as that?” Mulder says.

Meanwhile, Victorian motoring group RACV is calling on road users frustrated by congestion to participate in a survey.

Road users can nominate roads they wish to see in the biennial Redspot survey.

The last 2010 survey saw a record of 8000 nominations – 1500 more than in the 2008 survey.

RACV Roads Traffic Manager Dave Jones says the review applies to all road users.

“We need road users to be our eyes and ears on the road, letting us know about these areas that cause them frustration because of delays and traffic gridlock,” Jones says.

“Our research tells us that congestion is seen as an increasing problem for road users, impacting greatly on their ability to travel to and from work, drop their children at school and just go about their daily life.

“The Redspot Survey is the chance to have your say and make a difference, knowing that your vote will count when it comes to improving congestion.”

RACV transport engineers will analyse the results and present them to the government and local councils in an effort to identify congestion issues. The top red spots will be announced in October.
