Community protest group wants new Victorian premier to support the infrastructure project to remove trucks from local roads

A truck protest was held by the Maribyrnong Truck Action Group (MTAG) in Melbourne’s west today.
Up to 200 residents turned up on Footscray Road to lobby the Victorian Government to build infrastructure to remove trucks from local roads.
MTAG Secretary Martin Wurt says the family-friendly protest, which saw police in attendance, is a reminder to the government that residents deserve clean air in their suburbs.
They want Premier Denis Napthine to meet with them to discuss the construction of ramps connecting the West Gate Freeway and Hyde Street.
“We hope we get to spend some time with him and being the ex-ports minister he should firmly know the issues,” Wurt says.
“We’re not running out of steam because we’re not going anywhere.
“Governments come and go and we’ve seen in the time the community has been calling for action about five premiers in that time.
“We’re not going away and we will keep up the fight – it’s unjust what’s going on.”
