MTAG protest to push for night curfew on trucks

Protestors will block a road in Melbourne’s west tomorrow.

Traffic disruptions are expected in Melbourne’s west tomorrow when locals gather to protest against truck movements in their area.

The Maribyrnong Truck Action Group (MTAG) will hold a 30 minute protest from 8am, blocking the corner of Moore and Donald streets in Footscray.

Protestors want a night curfew imposed on trucks to force them to use CityLink when accessing the Port of Melbourne.

“Residents are currently subsidising industry profits with their health, safety and literally their sleep,” MTAG claims.

The group believes the number of trucks has increased by 400 per cent at night since 2006.
