Boundary Road Interchange features a new six-lane bridge
A section of the $8.5 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade project has completed six months ahead of its due date.
Federal infrastructure and transport minister Darren Chester, Queensland acting main roads minister Steven Mills, federal member for Petrie Luke Howarth, and member for Murrumba Chris Whiting have welcomed the opening of the Boundary Road Interchange.
Chester says the $100.4 million upgrade will benefit all drivers using the Bruce Highway.
“This project is a great example of how the Australian Government’s investment in infrastructure is improving lives and saving lives at the grassroots,” Chester says.
“The Boundary Road interchange is going to help commuters get where they need to go more easily and safely, and I’m impressed at how these works have been completed six months ahead of schedule.
“The new interchange is just one outcome from our jointly funded $8.5 billion 10-year Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, which is delivering better roads right around Queensland.”
The upgrade includes:
- a new six-lane bridge over the highway to increase capacity and ease congestion
- longer on and off-ramps to improve safety for motorists entering and exiting the highway
- improved bridge clearance to avoid the need for high loads detouring on other roads.
The new bridge, built north of the former overpass, opened to traffic in April.
The bridge allows motorists to use four through-lanes on Boundary Road, together with dedicated slip lanes feeding the northbound and southbound on-ramps.
Miles says the upgrades will significantly improve safety, eases congestion and cater for traffic growth for years to come.”
The Boundary Road Interchange project was jointly funded by the federal and state governments on a 80:20 basis.
Howarth says minor finalisation works, landscaping and watering at the project site will continue until the end of the year.
