Mercedes-Benz Actros and Arocs trucks recalled

Steering spindle issue triggers recall

A recall has been issued of Mercedes-Benz Actros 963 and Arocs 963 trucks.

“The tooth flank depth in the serration of the splines may not be sufficient for the required transmission of force between the steering column and the spindle,” an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) statement notes.

“If there is not sufficient depth there may be slippage of the connection between the steering column and steering spindle.

“This could lead to a loss of control of the vehicle, posing a safety hazard to the driver and other road users.”

A Daimler spokesperson tells ATN that out of the affected trucks, only six are with customers and the remaining are still at the dealerships.

The company also states that none of the parts of the affected vehicles are expected to be changed and the recall is only meant to facilitate additional safety checks.

A vehicle identification number (VIN) list of the affected trucks can be found here.
