The Victorian government has confirmed the new-look Metro Tunnel network will open this Sunday, November 30, with trains set to re-work the city’s rail network.

The tunnel will see trains stopping at five new stations, with 240 extra services a week running between West Footscray and Westall.

It’ll also see extended weekend services run through the tunnel to Sunbury and East Pakenham, with the state government announcing free weekend public transport from November 30 until February 1 next year.

Following that date, a new timetable will be introduced.

From Monday to Friday, services through the tunnel between Westall and West Footscray will run every 20 minutes from 10am to 3pm, while on weekends they’ll run every 20 minutes between 10am and 7pm, and every 40 minutes from East Pakenham and every 60 minutes from Sunbury.

The five new stations are Arden in North Melbourne, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac near the Shrine of Remembrance.
