Mazda BT-50 models recalled

Issue with side airbags forces recall of Mazda utes

More than 250 Mazda BT-50 models have been recalled over an airbag issue.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) notice states the “airbag initiators within the side airbag modules may contain an incorrect chemical mixture.”

“This incorrect chemical mixture could cause the airbag inflator not to initiate, resulting in the side airbag not deploying in the event of a crash and increasing the risk of injury to occupants,” the notice continues.

“As of date of publication, there have been no reported cases in Australia.”

Mazda Australia says it will contact all affected customers by mail and advised to present their vehicle to preferred Mazda Dealer for repair at no charge.

The affected vehicles were sold nationally between December 29, 2016 and April 4, 2017.

Full list of affected vehicles can be found here.
