Seaweed biotech company named Tasmanian Exporter of the Year

Marinova Pty Ltd has been named the Tasmanian Exporter of the Year at the state’s recent export awards
Marinova operates in the research of brown seaweed.

Marinova, a biotechnology company that specialises in compounds created from select species of brown seaweed has been named the 2024 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year by premier Jeremy Rockliff at the recent Tasmanian Export Awards.

The major award winner is a world-leader in fucoidan science and specialises in the research, development and production of highly bioactive seaweed extracts for the betterment of human health.

Fuciodans occur naturally in the cell walls of brown seaweeds and are utilised in a diverse range of clinical settings. They have global regulatory acceptance in a range of industries including human nutrition, skincare, animal health and pharmaceutical research sectors.

The company is a world-leading supplier of choice and exported its products to the likes of the USA, Taiwan, Germany, Malaysia and New Zealand.

As part of the award it has been presented $10,000 to attend an international trade show or event, or join a government trade mission.

Rockliff, who is also the state’s minister for trade and major investment, congratulated Marinova on the achievement.

“This Tasmanian company is a fantastic example of a pioneering, world-leading organisation that is showcasing its products and services to the world,” Rockliff says.

“Their success keeps our economy strong, creates jobs and keeps Tasmania’s reputation strong on the global stage.”

Marinova was also named as the winner of the award for Sustainability and Green Economy.

  • Tasmanian Exporter of the Year: Marinova Pty Ltd.

All 11 category winners will represent Tasmania at the National Export Awards to be held in Canberra on November 20.
