Malec opens new container storage facility at the Port of Brisbane

Malec has officially moved into its new site at the Port of Brisbane as part of a new 10-year lease agreement

Australian logistics company Malec has announced it has moved into a new Port of Brisbane (PBPL) container storage and logistics site as part of a new 10-year lease deal.

With the help of contractor FKG, construction of the new site finished in June, with the 4.35 hectare site set on Fisherman Islands.

After being established as a small courier company in Geelong back in 1997, Malec now has more than 300 stuff and a fleet of more than 400 trucks and trailers.

The space includes 750sqm of workshops, a 300sqm office and 60kW rooftop solar to go along with recycled water and stormwater collection.

The new facility has been built on a repurposed brownfield site, with PBPL chief commercial officer David Keir welcoming Malec to the location.

“Malec first came to Port of Brisbane during a phase of significant growth and transition for the company. We worked to secure them a temporary site, while our teams worked together to design and deliver a purpose-built permanent home that’s close to the action of the Port’s quayline and terminals,” Keir says.

“We continue to see strong trade growth through the Port, including a record 1.53 million twenty-foot equivalents (TEUs) in FY22. As Port of Brisbane continues to grow, so too do opportunities for our customers such as Malec.”

Managing director Matthew Malec says this development at Australia’s third largest multi-cargo port is testament to the company’s ambitions and commitment to customers.

“This is the first of many projects we’ve got in the pipeline across the country to align with our goal of leading the way for safety, service and sustainability in the port transport logistics industry,” Malec says.

“Finally, we are growing our team and will have more announcements coming soon.”
