The fully rebuilt section of the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Curra has opened to traffic, capping off more than three years of work to improve the section of road.
The southbound lanes of the highway opened to traffic yesterday afternoon, with the northbound lanes opening early today.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says the project realigned and duplicated the highway, erected three bridges and built emergency stopping bays. Variable electronic messaging signs were also installed.
“The project team will now focus on completing the project’s remaining elements, namely the new Mary Valley Link Road, the realignment of Traveston Road and the construction of the Traveston Interchange,” Albanese says.
He says the final parts of the project are due to be completed before Christmas and under budget. The Federal Government contributed $388 million to the upgrade, with $125 million coming from the Queensland Government.
