One of Australia’s largest independent logistics operators, XL Express, has entered voluntary administration after 35 years in business.

The Queensland-based company, which launched in 1990 and built a national road transport logistics network, has appointed FTI Consulting as voluntary administrators to carry out what it describes as an “urgent assessment” of the company’s viability.

The administration affects XL Express Operations Pty Ltd and 15 other associated entities under the XL Express brand.

“The administrators will investigate the financial position of the companies and provide a report to creditors in due course,” FTI Consulting says in a statement.

At this stage, it remains unclear precisely what has caused XL Express to fall into administration.

FTI Consulting sought to reassure customers, confirming that contingency plans are being put in place.

“Where services are unable to be fulfilled, arrangements are being made for customers to collect their goods held in XL Express Group distribution centres,” the firm says.

A first meeting of creditors is scheduled to be held before 9 July 2025, where further details about the company’s position and future prospects are expected to emerge.

Entities included in the administration, as listed in Schedule 1 by FTI Consulting, are:

XL Express (Operations) Pty Ltd

XL Express (Distribution) Pty Ltd

XL Express Pty Ltd

Express Regional Distribution Pty Ltd

XL Express (Services) Pty Ltd

XL Express (Holdings) Pty Ltd

XL Express (Linehaul) Pty Ltd

Australian Linehaul Express Pty Ltd

XL Express (WMH) Pty Ltd

More clarity is expected once the administrators complete their initial investigations and present findings to creditors.
